Mr. Collins of Long Island, New York, was  
commenting about his experience of 40 years  
with one State brand water heater.

In 1966, Mr. Collins purchased a Princess Series  
50-gallon glass-lined State brand gas water  
heater from Long Island Lighting Company.  
Ironically, the water heater outlasted the utility  
company. In 1998, Long Island Power Authority  
received federal permission to take over Long  
Island Lighting Company.  
Prior to purchasing the water heater, Collins  
received hot water from a coil that ran off a  
thatcher boiler. When he realized his family was  
growing, he decided to upgrade to a more  
efficient State gas water heater.

Throughout the 40 years, the water heater  
never needed repair. Mr. Collins, his wife, and  
four children took showers every day and never  
ran out of hot water. “My two daughters spent a  
lot of time in the shower growing up and never  
complained of cold water,” Collins said.  
In 2006, Mr. Collins decided to replace his water  
heater with one made in the same factory as  
the original. “I’m proud to support an  
American-owned company that builds such a  
fine product.” After 40 years of hot water, Mr.  
Collins stated, “There was nothing wrong with  
the one I had, but I proactively upgraded to a
